Back2Back returns to Madagascar, this time it's for the UN and their 21st Century Series.
The story is set in the Sava region of northern Madagascar, the vanilla capital of the world, children are increasingly involved in the production of black vanilla pods, a key ingredient of some of the world’s most famous ice cream brands.
Hundreds of thousands of children are being forced into the trade by impoverished parents to farm the pods that sell for up to $6 each in European and American supermarkets. The children earn on average less than $0.12cents a day. The UN’s ILO estimates nearly 2million children are at work on the island when they should be at school.
